Peter Sterling, Head of Specialty Finance & General Partner at Outpost Ventures, Neuberger Berman. Peter Sterling, Managing Director, is the Head and Founding member of Neuberger’s Specialty Finance platform and a member of its Investment Committee. The platform focuses on asset-based finance and growth lending. Under Peter’s tenure, the group has expanded its global footprint across the investor community. The group’s last closed-end fund vintage was in April 2025 at $1.65 billion. Peter also leads Outpost Ventures, which is the venture capital platform within Neuberger. Prior to joining the firm in 2018, Peter served as President of Coastland Capital, an asset manager within the relative value and specialty finance strategies. He served as the Portfolio Manager for Coastland’s specialty finance vehicle, which invested across consumer and small business loans/receivables with an emphasis on the Fintech space. The group underwrote and purchased several hundred million dollars of varying assets across the whole loan, receivable and securitized ABS markets. Before joining Coastland, Peter served as a Portfolio Manager at KBC Alternative Investment Management Ltd., a multi-strategy asset manager with several billion dollars under management, and Marin Capital. During his tenure, Peter co-managed a large credit portfolio focused on capital structure arbitrage. Previous to that, Peter was part of D.E. Shaw’s Financial Products group, which was subsequently sold to KBC Bank, managing their U.S. convertible bond arbitrage portfolio. Peter began his career trading equity derivatives for Gateway Partners on the floors of the American and Philadelphia Stock Exchanges. He holds a BA with a dual major in Economics and Psychology from Cornell University.
