London, May 17 2022 — Neuberger Berman, a private, independent, employee-owned investment manager, has launched the Neuberger Berman Next Generation Space Economy strategy in Europe as a UCITS fund.
The fund will be run by New York-based portfolio managers, Michael Barr and Hari Ramanan, who have a combined 45 years of experience and a 3-year track record in the sector. They will be backed by Neuberger Berman’s global equity research team of more than 46 investment professionals, as well as the firm’s data science and ESG teams.
The fund seeks to achieve long-term capital appreciation through investing primarily in a portfolio of global equity holdings that are involved in or derive benefit from next generation space economy. The fund aims to invest in equity securities that are related to the build-out of space infrastructure, technology solutions that unlock the potential of these assets, and applications created by these capabilities. The team also evaluates ESG characteristics as part of the multi-layered, bottom-up fundamental research investment approach.
Michael Barr comments: “The range of current and potential future opportunities presented by the space economy is considerable and we foresee this evolving at a similar pace and magnitude as smartphone technology, offering significant and long-term prospects to investors.”
Hari Ramanan adds: “The space economy is more than rockets and satellites. We can already see the importance of space in end markets such as banking, air traffic control, ride sharing and precision agriculture. Equally as exciting are future opportunities related to global connectivity, the insights derived from improving earth observation capabilities, and the accurate monitoring of the factors driving climate change.”
Jose Cosio, head of global intermediary (ex US) at Neuberger Berman, says: “Investor interest in thematic funds has increased in recent years, particularly since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, as clients increasingly look for growth opportunities from markets that defy traditional investment classifications.“This launch originates from the success of our thematic business which offers our clients access to diversified themes like next generation mobility. We are proud of the strong track record of our existing strategies achieved by a highly experienced global team and are delighted to share this investment philosophy with investors.”
Investing in the fund is subject to risk, including equity, market, emerging markets, liquidity, smaller companies, concentration, stock connect, smaller companies, counterparty, operational, currency and derivatives risk.
