J. Michael McCarthy, CFA, Managing Director of Neuberger Berman’s Private Investment Portfolios Group and Head of Infrastructure, joined the firm in 2022. Previously, Michael was a senior portfolio manager with APG Asset Management, where he managed a multibillion-dollar portfolio of direct equity, joint-venture and limited partnership assets across the Americas. Prior to APG, he was at UBS Investment Bank in both the Office of the Chairman and the Americas Infrastructure groups. Previously, he was a founding employee of Infrastructure Ontario, responsible for pioneering the development of public-private partnership projects in Ontario, where he ultimately served as vice president, New Build Nuclear Procurement. Michael began his career with Ernst & Young Corporate Finance. He has served on several Boards, including multiple toll-roads, fiber provider Conterra Networks, as well as several joint-venture and limited partnership advisory Boards. He holds a B. Commerce (Honors) from Queen’s University, an MBA from Columbia Business School, and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Faryn Altschuler is a Vice President at Neuberger Berman. Ms. Altschuler coordinates the private equity platform marketing and fundraising efforts. In addition, she focuses on designing and implementing customized private equity and multi-asset class solutions for clients. Prior to joining Neuberger Berman Private Equity in 2017, Ms. Altschuler worked for a year in the Investor Relations/Marketing Group at PGIM Real Estate. Previously, Ms. Altschuler worked at J.P. Morgan Asset Management for 4 years where she assisted in the capital raising process across equities, fixed income and alternatives. Ms. Altschuler is a CFA Level II Candidate. She received her MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in Labor Relations from Cornell University.
Joshua Miller, CFA, is a Managing Director of Neuberger Berman and a senior member of the firm's Private Investment Portfolios group, focused on real assets investments. Prior to joining the firm in 2004, Joshua was at Cirrus Health, an outpatient surgery center developer. He sits on the LP Advisory Committee or is an LPAC observer of multiple funds including Arcadius I, ArcLight V, BP Opportunities II & III, Chambers Energy II, DIF VI & VII, Lime Rock New Energy, PG Direct Infrastructure IV, and Riverbend Energy XI. Joshua received his MBA, Beta Gamma Sigma from The McCombs School of Business – The University of Texas at Austin, and his BBA in Finance, magna cum laude from Southern Methodist University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Tully Cheng, CFA, FSA, FIA, Managing Director and Co-Head of Neuberger Solutions, joined Neuberger Berman in 2017. Tully specializes in asset allocation, CIO solutions, and risk management, with responsibilities spanning client engagement, thought leadership, and the development of analytical tools globally. Prior to joining Neuberger Berman, Tully worked as a Director in PGIM’s Institutional Advisory & Solutions Group, where he worked closely with pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, and official institutions. Earlier, he held roles within Prudential’s Retirement, Individual Life, and Group Insurance divisions, focusing on credit analysis, product pricing and cash flow testing. Tully graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Cornell University with BAs in Mathematics, Statistics, and Economics. Tully is a board member of Ember, a non-profit choral organization committed to musical education and performance.
Leonardo Bernardini, CFA, Senior Vice President, joined the firm in 2015. Leonardo is a Client Portfolio Manager on the Emerging Market Debt team representing all EMD Strategies to our investors. Leonardo joined the firm after working for 7 years at Altis, an investment advisor part of ING Investment Management where he worked as Senior Portfolio Manager in the area of fixed income asset allocation and manager selection, engaging with clients and investment managers with a focus on emerging market debt. Prior to Altis, Leonardo worked in manager selection with APG, the asset manager of ABP, the largest Civil Pension fund in Europe. Leonardo graduated ‘Cum Laude’ on his MSc. Financial Economics at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam and attained his BSc. Economics at the Roma Tre University.
Wei Li, Senior Vice President, joined the firm in 2022 as a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager for the FMC to manage RMB-denominated core Strategies for domestic and international clients. Prior to her current role, she served as fund manager for China Universal Asset Management Company, Everbright PGIM Fund Management Company, and ABC-CA Fund Management Company. Li obtained her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at the Nanjing University of Finance and Economics in 2007 and her Master of Science in Statistics at the Fudan University in 2010.
John San Marco, CFA, Senior Vice President, joined the firm in 2014. John is a Senior Research Analyst in the Global Equity Research Department, covering retail and e-commerce. He was named a TopGun Investment Mind by Brendan Wood International in 2021, 2023 and 2024, and has discussed the consumer sector on appearances at CNBC, WSJ, Bloomberg and Barron’s, among others. For six years prior to joining the firm, he was an equity analyst at Janney Montgomery Scott, where Institutional Investor recognized him as a “Rising Star” in the consumer goods sector. Before that, he worked for Wells Fargo (formerly Wachovia) for two years each in the credit capital markets division and the equity research department, analyzing securities across the capital structure in the consumer sector. John earned a BS from Fordham University and is a CFA Charterholder.
